Just as a patchwork quilt, Jessica Diskin creates new stories through collage as her artwork’s predominant technique.

 

The Show “Recortes”(‘Clippings’) is the result of a narratives’ collection that permeates the artist’s creative process. Through the insertion of contemporary elements into historical places and facts, she builds a new image to tell her own version of history.

 

In some of her works, Jessica plays with iconic figures from contemporary daily life, using them as the foundation for her interventions, creating connection through people’s memory.

 

A technique present in the artist’s work is layering, although it’s a common tool in collage, it’s treated with resin to seal her world view.

 

Jessica also uses classic frames in some of her other works as a creative way to celebrate art history and demonstrate the power of creative re-interpretation.

 

While this combination evokes a sense of proximity in the viewer, it also suggests a reflection on the impact these elements have in people’s life. After all, many of the elements she uses in her collages stem from society’s vices, such as: technology dependence, excessive consumption, entertainment culture, chemical addictions, or the pursuit of perfection.

 

The show ‘Clippins’ is an invitation for the public to enter the artist’s world and experience her way of seeing reality.
