FRIDA HARARI SITTON

FRIDA.jpg

Frida Harari Sitton is mexican, currently residing in Mexico City, with a bachelor’s degree in Communication from the ‘Universidad Anáhuac Mexico’ and a specialization in film-making.

Being the daughter of a visual artist, her childhood was among the sculptures in her mother’s atelier, which made art become her second language. Throughout her career as a filmmaker, she became infatuated with the concept of reflection, and with creating atmosphere and ambiance through light and color, creating her the impulse to apply these concepts in art.

Frida found in the mirror the common element between light and reflection, when exploring its possibilities, she turned it into her artistic research: the subjectivity of perception, not only of the viewer, but also of the ambient around it.

The artist proposes a debate about how light, color, and space mold the way one interprets and sees the world, highlighting the impermanence and constant change of everything. The acrylic panels and mirrors come in her work with new possibilities of color and distortion of reflection, which stops being a passive element when exposed to the viewer and ambient light's movement.

With a strong influence from cinema, the artist shares Almodóvar’s geometry and circle obsession, Emanuel Lubezki’s attention to color, and in the visual arts field there is inspiration from James Turrell and Carlos Cruz-Diez’s light and color study, and a hint of Lucio Fontana’s composition with emptiness.

Frida Harari Sitton produced and directed short films, has won prizes and has participated in international film festivals all over the world, and as part of more than ten art shows, solos and in group, in Mexico City, New York, Miami and São Paulo.
