Who is the real bait in publicity?
With this as a central questioning, the show Carnada viva, “live bait”, in free translation, presents the work of the argentinian artist Alan Berry, coming from of his current research of graphics dissection.
The show presents the publicity of ten brands, products and imaginary artists from a fantastic world that Alan developed in order to create his own universe, throughout a literal dissection of the necessary information needed to translate it visually.
If these brands existed, would you want to consume them? Could it be that, once again, you’ve become the prey of advertising?
Alan honors the culture of small shops in Argentina, documenting and transforming them into fiction through his own perception of reality, inspired by the culture and mythology of murals and billboards he experienced during his travels alongside the Paraná river.
The artist uses an unique aesthetic, result of his fascination with handmade production, a reminiscent of small business and producers, that is embedded with soul and personality.
The show is the result of the need to explore this imaginary world, at the same time, serving as rescue of Argentina’s coastal culture and its characters, giving texture, color, light, and soul to these folkloric figures.
