ANDRÉ TIETZMANN

André Tietzmann was born in Santa Catarina and lives in Caraguatatuba. He graduated in Graphic Design at the ‘Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo’, he also did an advertisement technical course in the ‘Colégio Batista de Campinas’. The combination of these factors led him to work for 15 years as a designer and editor in offices such as ‘Editora Abril’, and for 6 years as a painting and drawing teacher.
During his trajectory, led by experimentation, the artist explored different styles which took him to what orientates his current research: the composition, or better yet, the formal structure of an image. Nowadays, he investigates the intense relationship within the body, between flesh and spirit, divine and profane.
His work carries a broad variety of series, from figurative to abstract, such as the landscapes that the artist has a special affection for, and portraits, a new theme that appeared during the pandemic. During this time, the artist found a new development to his work, motivated to compose from the body shapes and facial expressions.
An important part of his work is how he positions the elements on the canvas, contrasting or complementing themselves, with highly intense chromaticity and correlation between the colors used, no matter the theme portrayed.
André Tietzmann is a contemporary artist who has a broad range of influences in his work, from Caravaggio’s face expressions to William Turner’s landscapes, including Willem de Kooning’s and Francis Bacon’s brushstrokes.
With more than twenty years in hi artistic career, André Tietzmann has participated of various group shows, solo shows, art exhibits, and also won a journalism award.
